Watamu and neighbouring Malindi sit within a marine national park on Kenya’s north coast — a haven of coral gardens, turtles and creeks, edged by the Arabuko-Sokoke forest and the Gede ruins.
It is a quieter coastal base for snorkelling, dhow safaris and birding, with a reef still flourishing just offshore.
